Tempted by desire.
Unleashed by destiny.
Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life—working hard all day and partying all night—until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She’ll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths.
Hunt Athalar is a notorious Fallen angel, now enslaved to the Archangels he once attempted to overthrow. His brutal skills and incredible strength have been set to one purpose—to assassinate his boss’s enemies, no questions asked. But with a demon wreaking havoc in the city, he’s offered an irresistible deal: help Bryce find the murderer, and his freedom will be within reach.
As Bryce and Hunt dig deep into Crescent City’s underbelly, they discover a dark power that threatens everything and everyone they hold dear, and they find, in each other, a blazing passion—one that could set them both free, if they’d only let it.
I won’t lie to you, it took me a lot of time to really be in the story and to appreciate it. There is a lot of characters, places and vocabulary to learn in this book. Sarah J. Maas really create a full universe with its own history. But as I didn’t had time to read a lot at the start of the lock down, I wasn’t able to read enough every day to remember everything I was reading, so I first abandoned it before I gave it another chance.
There wasn’t a lot of action during the first part of the book, however the investigation that Bryce and Hunt have to do together kept me interested. Their little mouse and cat play helped me a lot too. I liked Bryce character a lot, especially because she let everyone think the worst of herself to hide her true intention. Hunt is also interesting, very dark at first, he opens to us page after page.
I also liked the universe construction, with all the different creatures Fae, Witch, Mer people, Wolves, Archangels, Vampires, Humans…
Another thing I really like and that is Sarah J. Maas power, is the twists, especially around some of her characters. There were a lot of things I haven’t seen coming, and I kept in mind one moment that just broke my hear. The last 200 pages are also kind of horrible to read if you can’t read them straight. My heart was pounding, and I was 1000 percent focus on the book because so much was happening !
I think that the only thing that I regret about this book, is that there are some chapters that are long, maybe too long. However, it’s still one of my favorite book of the year.
